a few of the 2003 orphans |
One of 5 orphaned fox squirrels |
starting to open our eyes |
6 Coyote cubs removed from a den in a residential area by a trapper. They are thriving! |
Full tummy... Time for a nap. |
One of 8 little opossum orphans. Many more on the way! |
A kitty nearly made a snack of this little cotton tail. Luckily all he got was a broken leg which set easily and is getting stronger each day! |
"Clyde" was attacked by dogs and it appears he was later ran over by a car. Seriously starved, infected and dehydrated, Clyde was only days from death when he arrived via good samaritan. Here, he is rehydrated, gained at least 6 lbs. and his infections are gone. A baseball size woud in his shoulder has been reduced to a scab the size of a quarter. |
Sometimes I lose my mind and forget how to say the word "No!" These Barbido sheep were born to inexperienced mothers and the owners didnt have the time to try to save them. I made the time and 4 healthy lambs will soon be going to their new home as pets with an owner who will love them as much as we do! |
This juvinile fawn was cut out of a fence. The residents didnt waste time to contact us. I arrived immediately and after fishing her out of a stream, carrying her up a steep bank, putting her hip back in its socket and setting a broken ankle, she is now settled in and recovering. |
A blindfold made from a sweatshirt sleeve keeps any deer calm and easy to manage. |
A blanket combats shock and keeps her secure and calm. This 60 lb. fawn is uncontained and able to fight or flee, but she knows she is safe and needs help. Her first night she never moved and the next morning drank water from a bowl and munched on corn. She will be fine and released after several weeks of care. |
This is "Angel" a wild raccoon recovered from distemper, a disease that is most often deadly to raccoons. If caught early, we have had excellent luck in curing the virus. Angel has lost all symptoms and will release in the next few weeks. She has been in care since December, 2002. |
Eyes open now, they are 'coyote piling' This stuffed imposter! |
These 7 cubs (yes, we got in another one!) are getting aggressive at this young age. If you arent holding them to feed a bottle, you will get bit! |
Begging for food! The group on the bottom is HOWLING for their milk! Coyotes do not bark, they howl! It is the cutest thing to see and hear! |
Little 'Drake' at less than a week old is our first raccoon this year. He is doing fine and is quickly adjusting to orphan life. |
STARLINGS: Only a mother, (or rehabber) could possibly love these freaky looking hatchlings! |
Cut from a tree accidently, these woodpeckers are thriving! |
The opossums are looking good and growing like weeds.
Below, two baby sparrows long for release. (Soon my babies! Soon! |
Our pythons, Rex and Jasmine enjoy the spring sunshine.
This 'Sharp Shinned Hawk' is healing from a minor wing injury. A member of the Acipiter family, he is a nasty fellow to deal with. |
This is a photo archive of some of the first orphans in for care during spring of 2003. Of course, once I get swamped, I dont take time to take photos or update the website. I wish that wasn't the case. I miss so much photo fun to share! Heres a few that are now long gone, (other than the snakes). ENJOY! |
